THE SINGING REVOLUTION GOES ON

The changes that took place in the Baltic countries — Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania — at the beginning of the 1990s are often referred to as the Singing Revolution. This name reflects the central role that mass singing and choral music played in the peaceful protests and national movements that ultimately led to the restoration of freedom and independence from the Soviet Union.

The singing traditions of the Baltic peoples date back centuries and remain vibrant today, most notably showcased in the regular song and dance festivals held across all three countries.

Over the years, Via Hansa & Borealis has organized visits for many choirs from around the world, eager to experience the region’s rich choral traditions and perform alongside local ensembles. This year is no exception. Most recently, Via Hansa & Borealis Baltic arranged tours for several large U.S. choirs that travelled across the Baltic countries, meeting fellow singers and giving well-attended performances in churches, cultural centres, museums, universities, and various other venues. Via Hansa & Borealis would be delighted to assist your choir in becoming part of the ongoing Singing Revolution in the Baltic region.
