NEW HOTELS IN RIGA

As Riga is celebrating being European Capital of Culture in 2014, this year will see significant changes on the hotel scene. A new local hotel chain, Wellton Hotel Group has taken over four 4-star properties: Hotel Wellton Gertrude (former Hotel FG Gertrude), Hotel Wellton Elefant (former Hotel Elefant), Hotel Wellton  Terrace Design (former Hotel Elizabetes) and Hotel Wellton Old Riga Palace (former Hotel Old Riga Palace) as well as the group recently unveiled a 120-room 4-star property, Wellton Centrum Hotel & Spa, in Riga’s Old Town. The group is currently constructing a new 170-room 4-star property, Hotel Wellton Valnu, to open in the Old Town by the end of 2014. Accor Hotels will open its first property in Riga by 1 May 2014, the 140-room 4-star Hotel Mercure Riga Centrum, and is planning to open a 5-star Hotel Pullman Riga before the season in 2015. Another new local chain, Semarah Hotels, has taken over the former Hotel Metropole, which will reopen as the 4-star Hotel Semarah Metropole with around 90 rooms by May this year. Finally, the large landmark Hotel Riga has been closed and is undergoing a complete renovation. It is due to reopen as the 5-star Hotel Kempinski Riga with around 180 rooms by the end of 2015.
